About this site
1 – Overview
This website is primarily to help Al chat with his family and friends, whether they are with him or on a call. It is not meant to replace communication with carers, who already understand Al, but just another option.
There a number of sections, including some of his favourite swear words.
Chat Section:
General topics / questions that Al may want to ask someone.
Specific Sections (e.g. Body, Environment etc.):
These are there to help Al say something specific that may take a while to understand e.g. discomfort, windows have been left open, something has been left in the Caddy, please change the TV channel etc.
2 – Using the site
It is a one page site which can be moved up and down and there are clickable links to different sections.
Topics have a maximum of two levels. So, there is still a bit of guessing involved.
Obviously, someone will have to move around the page by topic, i.e no need to read all items as a list This can be done either by reading them to Al, or pointing an a device screen. He will let you know when you are on track.
This will be easy when next to Al, but a FaceTime call may be better if two devices are used, so the caller can see Al’s face.
It would be good to let people see the website beforehand and most importantly, ask everyone to be patient.
Good to let carers and family know this website is an option. Al will keep us posted on how he thinks it is going.
3 – Suggestions
Let us know if you have any suggestions to make this better for Al e.g. Chat questions, topics and levels below that.
To do/consider:
- Review/update all items as this is our first attempt at this
- Modify for location?
- Night/day care differences?
Please call or email us with any comments or suggestions:
This page will print nicely to a PDF.
